Fresh croissants and breads, pizzas, brunches, lunches and dinners, a lovely outdoor garden. And all, it features coffee roasted on-site and sourced from various parts of Thailand and around the World. The two founding partners, Thai View and Australian Todd Adams can be proud of their creature. Which is also a location to listen to good jazz and music.

Just a short walk from the Thong Lor station of the BTS skytrain line, wandering in at 38 Sukhumvit Road, Soi Sangchai, you can find a relaxing corner that is more than just a cafeteria. Croissants and breads with various ingredients and cereals, everything you need for a Western-style breakfast, brunch but also lunch or dinner, either in the outdoor patio or inside the location, in an extremely modern and streamlined design.
There are often customers from various backgrounds, Thais and foreigners alike, who-intense in their online occupations-are sipping coffee and working on their computers or talking business on their cell phones.
The Rose Natural Wine is an unexpected corner of peace and tranquility, just steps away from the fervor, hubbub and almost perpetual traffic that reigns in the Sukhumvit Distric.
"Actually, we are not just a coffee shop in the sense that we also roast coffee here. These are coffees of various types and areas of origin, either from different parts of Thailand or from different country of origin when it comes to types of coffee imported from abroad, South America, Africa and Asia." Makhawan Kijyakanont (nickname View), hands out the detailed information about types and areas of origin with great care and professionalism but -at the same time- always with a beautiful smile lighting up his face.
"We take great care of the roasting that we do ourselves, and we also do outreach in terms of coffee knowledge to our customers," he says. View, 36, tells how The Rose Natural Wine was opened just two months after the declaration of Covid's entry into the country. This resulted in closures, restrictions, different alcohol serving times, always changing. Everything became pervaded with fear and uncertainty.
Investing in a new venue, going all in on a new business strategy, and finding yourself in front of your entire investment closed and locked down, complete with a lockdown imposed by the National Authorities, was a very tough time.
But View's smile, also explains so much in the effort to want to overcome all this and start thinking about tomorrow again.
View, moreover, shows us that -beyond the outdoor space, surrounded by plants and greenery, a corner of Nature where concrete is kept at an appropriate distance and beyond the space surrounding the cafeteria counter and the display case that protects the baked goods, there is another space.
A whole new world opens up: this is a real artists' space, with all the necessary equipment such as mixers, microphones, amplifiers, stage lights. There is even an upright acoustic piano available for the various musical groups that come weekly at The Rose Natural Wine.
An amazing space full of surprises.
Australian-born Todd Adams, 45, is his partner in this business venture. He too sees his face lit up with a smile; there is also a veiled irony in his words.
"I left Australia to seek new opportunities. My country, over the years has become particularly complex to live in, the cost of living-especially in large urban agglomerations-has become quite high. After a work experience in Cambodia, I decided to move to Thailand. Why? Mainly because my family is here today, my wife is Thai, and Thailand is an Advanced Development Nation, it is a particularly advanced scenario especially if you compare it with what is happening with other neighboring Nations in this area."
Cultural differences? Are there and what role can they play when West and East come into contact?
"I learned many things, you have to be patient and not start from your own culture as if it were an axiom. As you travel and work in other countries, you understand that you are confronted on a daily basis. My concept of relaxation, for example, is very different from what you generally have here in Thailand: I don't spend so much time watching TV or the cell phone, for me "relaxation, most of the time, means going for a ride on my motorcycle, getting out of the house, doing something outside the family home. At the same time, I learned from the Thais, that there is a time for work and there is a time in which you can devote yourself, away from certain frenzies of daily living."
View hands me a hot "American" coffee, with very little sugar. It is made with coffee from Chang Rai and roasted in his own place. In his face you read the pride of it all. And the coffee is really good.
