Monday 13th and Tuesday 14th December at Ekkolo Thatre in Bangkok (1034/30 Soi Saphan Koo, Rama IV Road, Mrt Lumpini) it will be held theatre performance Divine Dante, promoted by the Embassy of Italy in Bangkok and directed by Maurizio Mistretta.

Divine Dante is a theatrical/multimedia performance, a tribute to The Divine Comedy (La Divina Commedia) and its author in the 700th anniversary of his death.

Divine Dante is a journey through Dante’s life and his Divina Commedia, alternating storytelling, readings of some of the most memorable “canti”, realistic action on stage, live music performances and video projections. It aims to make the Italian narrative poem, sometimes considered rather difficult, more accessible and fun.

With storytelling in English, Divina Commedia’s readings are in Florentine Italian with screen subtitles, the live music is contemporary (Italian and international) and the video is a combination of contemporary and vintage visual art.

The event started with a welcome speech by HE The Ambassador of Italy to Thailand, Lorenzo Galanti, followed by an introduction to La Divina Commedia by Dr. Sando Calvani.

A welcome Aperitivo it has been be provided by Sole Mio Italian Restaurant.

The show is full of bloody moments, such as when the spectator is involved in the circles of Hell or when the story of Count Ugolino is crudely described. Just as there are romantic, touching and delicate moments, in particular when describing the love and tragic story of Paolo and Francesca. In Purgatory hope rises again, in Paradise we reach enlightenment and the state of grace. A multifaceted, varied and engaging show.
