Mike Boonmahanark, director of Art Wine Dine Bar & Restaurant, manager at Sathorn 11 Art Space, tells about the history of art gallery opened 11 years ago and the various activities running there, a location where you can feel deeply the atmosphere bog a different Bangkok, fulfilled by art, creativity, style, curiosity.
Why an exhibition dedicated to Petch Osathanugraph?
Mike showes a beautiful smile: “Petch was many lives in one, artist, singer, pianist, philanthropist, at the same time entrepreneur, CEO, working on high level in managing companies with international relevance.”
Petch Osathanugrah (1954–2023) was a prominent Thai businessman, pop singer-songwriter, art collector, and former CEO of the beverage and consumer goods giant Osotspa.
He served as the CEO and chairman of Osotspa—the historic Thai maker of iconic energy drinks like M-150 and Shark Cool Bite—and was the president of Bangkok University, which was founded by his family.
Before and alongside his corporate career, he was a well-known, chart-topping Thai pop/rock singer-songwriter, founded the advertising agency Spa Advertising (Spa-Hakuhodo), and created the magazine/TV show Women Today (Phuying Wanni).
He was an avid contemporary art collector (holding works by artists like Pablo Picasso and Damien Hirst) and initiated the Dib International Contemporary Art Museum (Dib Bangkok).
He died in his sleep on August 14, 2023, at the age of 68.
The pictures exhibition is a dual tribute to a special man who left an important signature in this world, that's why the subtitle of the exhibition is “I'm just a man”.
The French artist Bruno Tanquerel is exhibiting three of his works dedicated to Petch Osathanugraph like as the brother of Petch, Ratch does him too, showing three big canvas.
You and Petch were good friends, right?
“Well, you know, it was not a kind of friendship as usual is named in a popular way. We were meeting not so often but it was a special connection between us, very tight and intimate, it was easy to understand each other, we were surfing on the same wave, in a sort of way.
He was a special person—multifaceted, multitasking, creative, and full of initiative. For those who knew him well, he is hard to forget. It is equally difficult to find a man like him these days.”
